ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio — A 64-year-old Belmont County woman was killed last weekend when she was attacked by a male deer while inside the animal’s enclosure at a private residence.
A news release from the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office says Jodi Proger, of Stewartsville, was pronounced dead at the scene Saturday night.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to the residence just before 10:30 p.m. When deputies arrived, family members said Proger appeared to be trapped in the deer’s enclosure at the home and had been attacked.
Family members said they tried to intervene but were unsuccessful. Deputies killed the deer.
No foul play is suspected. The sheriff’s office has notified the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) of the incident and ODNR officials are communicating with the Ohio Dep
