FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - One person is dead after crashing a pickup truck into a house on Fort Wayne’s northeast side Thursday night, according to police.

A news release from the Fort Wayne Fire Department says an officer was near the Northcrest Shopping Center at 10:14 p.m. when he saw a pickup driving fast on Clinton Street.

Police say the officer began tailing the pickup, which then turned onto St. Joe Center Road before turning into the Papermill Bluffs neighborhood.

As the officer caught up with the truck, the release says he activated his emergency lights and siren. Police say the pickup driver kept driving “at an excessively high rate of speed” before driving off the road, hitting two parked cars, and slamming into a house on Roaring Fork Run.
