A woman was struck by a vehicle and killed on Market Street in University City Thursday morning, Philadelphia police said.
Emergency crews were called to 33rd and Market streets around 4 a.m. At the scene they found a woman who'd been hit, later identified as 48-year-old Meaza Brown of South Philadelphia. She was rushed to the hospital, where she later died.
Police say Brown was walking to work with a group of coworkers when she was hit by a silver Chrysler 300 sedan that ran a red light. No one else was struck.
The Chrysler did not stay at the scene and fled eastbound on Market Street.
Police say they've recovered the Chrysler involved in the hit-and-run at 34th and Race streets, but they're still looking for the driver.
