The death of 85-year-old Biswanath Halder, who carried out a terrifying seven-hour siege at Case Western Reserve University in 2003, has brought a quiet end to one of Cleveland’s most frightening.

Today in Ohio podcast hosts discussed the news of Halder’s death from natural causes while serving a life sentence for the attack that killed a 30-year-old MBA student and left nearly 100 people trapped on campus.

“He was a former graduate student at Case Western Reserve. And this was a seven hour siege inside the Peter B. Lewis Building on May 9, 2003,” explained Laura Johnston. “He was armed with a semiautomatic rifle, dressed in military gear.”

She recalled how students hid all over the building before a SWAT team captured Halder on the fifth floor.
