India’s Test skipper Shubman Gill is keen to prove his fitness and ensure availability for the second match against South Africa in Guwahati, but the team management, led by Gautam Gambhir, isn’t willing to take the risk, according to a report in The Times of India.

In a major setback for India, Gill is all set to miss the second Test against South Africa in Guwahati, beginning Saturday, November 22. Though he travelled with the team with encouraging signs of recovery, the BCCI medical team believes he remains well short of match fitness and would not be cleared to play in the series decider.

As per the report, Gill was eager for a long net session in Guwahati to assess his fitness, but the team management does not want to risk worsening his condition.
