Russia has reaffirmed its commitment to support India’s future fighter aircraft needs by offering unrestricted technology transfer for the Su-57 fifth-generation stealth fighter. This announcement was made during the Dubai Air Show 2025, where Sergey Chemezov, CEO of the Russian defence conglomerate Rostec, described all of India’s demands as “completely acceptable.”
Chemezov highlighted the enduring defence partnership between India and Russia, stating, "India and Russia have been partners for many years. Even when India was under sanctions, we supplied the country with weapons to ensure its security." He emphasized that Russia continues to provide military equipment to India, aligning with mutual interests in defence cooperation.
Vadim Badekha, director general of the United Aircraft Corporation, a subsidiary of Rostec, confirmed that all technical requests from India regarding the Su-57 have been positively received. He noted that the Russian side is in close contact with Indian officials to facilitate this collaboration.
The proposal includes not only the production of Su-57 aircraft in Russia but also plans for a gradual transfer of production to India. This encompasses licensing for air weapons integration and technology transfer for critical components such as engines, optics, AESA radar, artificial intelligence elements, low-signature technologies, and modern air weapons. Additionally, a two-seat variant of the Su-57 is part of the potential joint development plan.
Officials stated that this deal would enable India to manufacture essential components domestically, alleviating concerns over international sanctions, while also allowing for long-term upgrades through software and systems improvements. This move reinforces over six decades of reliable and transparent defence cooperation between the two nations.
The announcement comes ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India next month. Recently, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Putin and other Russian officials in Moscow, while Putin’s aide Nikolai Patrushev discussed various cooperation initiatives with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on November 18.
