Even though the federal government is back open and SNAP benefits have resumed, North Texas families and food banks are still feeling the fallout.

Tarrant Area Food Bank says the surge in need over the past few months has forced them to spend more than half of their annual food budget in just three months, trying to keep up with demand.

TAFB President & CEO Julie Butner says the shutdown, combined with the SNAP benefits pause, created a wave of need across all 13 counties they serve.
