KEW GARDENS, Queens (WABC) -- Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced the second largest gang takedown in the history of the borough on Thursday afternoon.

The district attorney held a news conference detailing the takedown at her office in Kew Gardens.

A total of 32 defendants are facing 97 counts, including murder, conspiracy and weapons possession. At least nine of the defendants are adolescents and are not being identified.

The leader of the gang is alleged to have armed local teenagers in Southeast Queens and gave them permission to shoot at rivals.

One video shared during the announcement showed an incident in 2022, when a teenage girl was studying in her home. Officials say the defendants fired off 23 rounds trying to kill a rival, but shot the girl in the leg instead.
