BOISE, Idaho — Payette County has launched a public survey seeking feedback after its bond measure to fund a new jail facility failed during the Nov. 4 election .
The measure earned 55.7% support – backed by 2,031 of participating 3,646 voters – but fell short of the two-thirds supermajority required for passage.
The $40 million bond would have financed a new jail on county-owned land near 7th Avenue North, replacing the decades-old facility located next to Payette Primary School. County officials estimated the bond would have cost taxpayers about $60 per $100,000 of taxable property value each year.
More than 1,600 residents voted to reject the proposed bond earlier this month. Payette County is now asking for community input through the post-election survey as it evaluates next
