Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is challenging the Trump administration’s latest order to keep a coal-fired power plant in West Michigan from being retired.

Federal officials used emergency powers to issue a third successive order Tuesday requiring the 63-year-old J.H. Campbell plant in Ottawa County to remain operational through Feb. 17.

Nessel on Wednesday filed a motion to halt the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) order. She claimed the order is based on an outdated winter reliability assessment report to fabricate the emergency.

Nessel said a new winter reliability report released by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation showed sufficient electric generation for the region, countering the Trump administration’s justification for keeping the Campbell plant
