DES MOINES, Iowa — The Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB) is partnering with law enforcement across Iowa to enhance road safety during the Thanksgiving holiday season.
Drivers will notice an increased police presence on Iowa roads through November 30.
GTSB emphasizes the importance of wearing seat belts, stating they are not only required by law but also provide the best protection against serious injury or death in a crash. Last Thanksgiving week saw 17 fatal or serious injury crashes, with five involving unrestrained occupants.
The bureau also highlights the dangers of impaired driving, reminding everyone that "Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving." They urge travelers to plan for a sober driver, noting that impairment can result from drugs as well, with the message "If You Feel Diffe
