Koby Berry

A Virginia man is behind bars after police say he carried out a series of disturbing and unpredictable attacks along the W&OD Trail and surrounding neighborhoods.

Fairfax County Police said the incidents began on Thursday, Oct. 30, when an unknown man “jumped in front of a female bicyclist on the W&OD trail and tackled her off her bike before fleeing.”

Two days later, on Saturday, Nov. 1, the same suspect reportedly entered a hotel room in the 12100 block of Sunset Hills Road.

Police said the man claimed he was security and looking for someone “who defecated on the sidewalk.” Once inside, investigators said he “exposed himself to women in the room then left the area.”

The pattern escalated on Sunday, Nov. 9, when officers were called to the W&OD Trail near Hunter Mill Road for a man who “attempted to strike a man walking on the trail and took a woman’s phone.”

Officers found Koby Berry, 27, of Reston, on the trail and took him into custody at that time, charging him with two counts of simple assault and larceny before he was later released.

Days later, on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 9:22 a.m., officers responded to the 1400 block of North Point Village Center for another assault.

Police said an unknown man “touched the victim inappropriately while she was in a store.” Surveillance footage identified the suspect as Berry, and detectives obtained a warrant for simple assault.

He was arrested again on Saturday, Nov. 15.

Detectives later linked Berry to the Nov. 1 hotel exposure and the Oct. 30 trail assault, FCPD said. He was taken back into custody and charged with indecent exposure, assault, and trespassing.

Police said he remains held on no bond.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have encountered Berry on the W&OD Trail or elsewhere in Reston to come forward.
