ST. GABRIEL, La. (WAFB) - An employee at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center is now facing charges herself after an investigation by the Department of Corrections.

Jail records show Kimira Nicole Hughes, 23, was arrested on Thursday, Nov. 20, on the charges of malfeasance in office for sexual conduct with a person in an institution and taking contraband to/from penal institutions prohibited.

Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi confirmed Hughes did not have sexual intercourse with an inmate. However, he said she was filmed kissing an inmate.

This reportedly led to her being charged with malfeasance in office for alleged sexual conduct with a person in an institution.

The sheriff said the contraband charge is tied to a gun found in her vehicle while she was working her shift.
