Shifting to on-demand model

The city of Peoria has begun the process of revamping its transit system that officials say will improve rider experience and bring down costs.

Neighborhood and Human Services Director Chris Hallett said the system will shift to an on-demand model that could save the city about $1 million annually, with better service and lower cost.

He said the changes will modernize Peoria’s transit system and improve rider experience — shorter waits, same-day access, no shared rides — expanding service elasticity, and containing costs as demand grows.

“We believe all these things will provide an improved rider experience,” Hallett said.
