DOVER — Gov. Matt Meyer said in October that he believed it was possible for Delaware lawmakers to pass legislation to decouple from the federal tax code in two months’ time.

It happened in one month.

Meyer signed an expedited House Bill 255 on Wednesday afternoon, mere hours after the Delaware State Senate passed it with a 14-6 vote. The bill has Delaware’s tax code diverge from the federal tax code’s provisions for corporate income tax that were set with the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

The Meyer administration said that Delaware stood to lose around $400 million over the course of the next three years

The fast-tracked bill had an unusual path to the governor’s desk, as Meyer had altered the public to a budget shortfall once the Delaware Economic and Financial Advisory Council issued
