BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont ISD school trustees will consider purchasing 22 rifle-rated active shooter ballistic shields from RTS Tactical during their meeting tonight.

The total cost is $74,799.81, according to supplemental attachments to the agenda. The cost is covered by state grant funds.

As of Sept. 1, 2025, school districts in Texas are required to have at least one ballistic shield available on each campus. This began with the passage of House Bill 33, also known as the Uvalde Strong Act.

The act also requires each campus to have breaching tools on campus. A breaching tool is a device designed to break through doors, windows, gates and other barriers.
