WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) — After being in the center of a financial corruption case as one of the poorest counties in the state, Williamsburg County leaders hope to provide more accountability.
Those who once held four of the top elected positions in Williamsburg County, plus a top hired staff member, are facing prison time if convicted of charges filed by the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office .
Former Sheriff Stephen Gardner was in office and suspended by the governor after his indictment. Former Treasurer Kimber Cooper was also still serving until suspended after her indictment.
