LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Just weeks after being sworn in as Jefferson County Clerk, David Yates is now overseeing the election called to replace him in the Kentucky State Senate. But before votes cast their ballots, each machine has to be checked and signed off on; ensuring no Election Day hiccups happen.
“We have a special election, and today is the day that we’re going to review, and make sure that everything’s working properly,” Yates told reporters.
In order to fill the State Senate vacancy, a special election will be held next month for District 37 in Jefferson County.
An employee with the clerk's office stated hundreds of ballots are run through each machine, a process that takes a few days to complete. During a typical county-wide election, the process can take roughly two weeks.
