FREDERICTON – New Brunswick's government is preparing to sign a new four-year agreement with the provincial medical society aimed at improving access to primary care. The New Brunswick Medical Society has approved the agreement, which will apply to all doctors in the public health system.
Premier Susan Holt announced that the $270 million agreement is designed to incentivize physicians to practice in the province. It will reward doctors who take on more patients and engage in team-based clinics. Health Minister John Dornan emphasized that this model was chosen for its reliability.
The agreement is retroactive to April 1, and further details will be disclosed once the contract is finalized. Dr. Lise Babin, president of the medical society, expressed her satisfaction with the agreement, stating it will enhance the health system and help address the earnings gap between New Brunswick doctors and their counterparts across Canada.
This initiative reflects the government's commitment to improving healthcare access and supporting medical professionals in the province. The agreement is expected to have a significant impact on the delivery of primary care services in New Brunswick.
