GREENVILLE, S.C. —

A symbol of holiday joy will undergo renovations and repairs to preserve its future for generations to come.

The Roper Mountain Star , adorned with incandescent lights, can often be seen shining through the trees, brightening the Greenville skyline. On Thursday, the Roper Mountain Science Center removed the star from its pedestal for the second time since it was erected.

Assistant Director Thomas Riddle said the star was damaged by inclement weather, including Hurricane Helene. Riddle said the timing to bring the star down around the holiday season was purely coincidental.

“The number of storms we had since that time over this past year, it's just knocked everything loose. Now, it's in a state of where we really need to take it down," Riddle said. "While we're sad
