DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa Capitol Bureau) - Some charges, like a $2,000 charge on the city’s credit card, could not be confirmed due to a lack of documentation by city staff, State Auditor Rob Sand said.
Bank officials notified city officials on March 17 of suspicious activity on the city’s accounts, including that Bosworth was using the mayor’s electronic signature to issue checks to herself, Sand said.
Bosworth had served as city clerk since March 2009 and retired in April.
She spent $55,000 of the $63,000 in March 2025 alone, according to the audit.
“The report found no evidence that Bosworth was repaying any of the money she admitted taking,“ said Sand. “The improper disbursements included $4,800 in checks to herself for cash, $2,000 in improper disbursements identified as
