The Minneapolis City Council voted Thursday to approve a $475,000 dollar settlement with the family of Leneal Frazier, who died in 2021 after a police officer chasing a suspect crashed into his car.

On July 6, 2021, then-officer Brian Cummings pursued a carjacking suspect for about 20 blocks through the north Minneapolis neighborhood at speeds of up 100 miles per hour, according to the lawsuit.

Frazier had a green light as he drove through the intersection at Lyndale Avenue North and 41st Avenue. The vehicle driven by the carjacking suspect narrowly missed Frazier as it sped through the intersection, but the squad car slammed into the driver’s side of Frazier’s Jeep. He died about 90 minutes later.
