A pedestrian was fatally struck by four vehicles on Interstate 95 in Stamford on Wednesday morning, three of which fled the scene.

Troopers responded to the area of I-95 North in Stamford just before 6:30 a.m. on Thursday for a fatal motor vehicle collision, according to the Connecticut State Police .

A preliminary investigation determined that, for an unknown reason, a pedestrian was walking in the right travel lane of I-95 North by before Exit 6 when they were was struck by a vehicle and thrown to the left part of the highway, state police said.

According to state police, the vehicle left the scene.

The pedestrian was then struck by two other vehicles that left the scene, state police said.
