As concerns intensify over a looming federal immigration crackdown in New Orleans and across the metro, Mayor-elect Helena Moreno says she’s watching the situation closely.

Thursday afternoon, Moreno told WWL Louisiana she was in the dark about what this operation will look like.

Without having any details from federal officials, Moreno says she shares a concern that many people across the city are feeling.

“You have parents who are scared to send their children to school,” said Moreno. “At my church, Our Lady of Guadalupe on Rampart, there is a one o’clock service, Spanish speaking service every Sunday, that keeps getting smaller and smaller. People are really, really scared.”
