The Casselberry Police Department has introduced a new 3D laser scanner to enhance crime scene investigations, funded by money forfeited by criminals.
The device, which resembles an old video camera, transforms crime scenes into 3D images, providing investigators and juries with a more dimensional view of evidence.
"Instead of showing a simple photograph, it can take people to the scene and transport people there and give them a better view from all the angles of exactly what occurred," said Captain William Nas of CPD.
The device cost $70,000, with much of the funding coming from criminals who had to forfeit their money or cars.
"If I was on a jury, I would want to see if I had an important decision to make, I would want all the information possible," Nas added.
