The Joyful Hearts ministry of First United Methodist Church of Morristown announced a trip to the National Gingerbread House Competition on Thursday, December 4.

The competition is an annual event held at the Omni Grove Park Inn and Spa in Asheville, North Carolina, where hundreds of contestants of all ages showcase elaborate, entirely edible creations to compete for prizes.

The event originated in 1992 as a small, local display of community-built gingerbread houses with no initial plans to continue, but strong visitor interest led to its evolution into a nationally celebrated, competitive tradition.

Joyful Hearts will leave First United Methodist Church at 8:30 a.m., and return to the church at 5 p.m.
