The Macomb County Board of Commissioners on Thursday passed a $1.1 billion budget for 2026, without new positions that County Executive Mark Hackel had proposed for the general fund.

Hackel said the lack of new positions wasn't "a point of division" and said his office and commissioners will continue talking. The new fiscal year starts Jan. 1.

"Sure, we may agree or disagree on what was put forward, but there's still an avenue moving forward to continue to talk and find out if there's the opportunity to resolve some of those necessary areas of support that are needed," he said.
