OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - Ottumwa City Council members voted 4-1 to table new security measures planned for City Hall.

The four council members who voted for the pause had concerns about how easily staff could communicate with top leaders.

“City staff not having access to their administration. I know that you’re going to tell me, yes they still have access to their administration but not in the way they have in the past,” said Cara Galloway, an Ottumwa City Council member.

Another concern was who would need an escort to enter city hall. Two council members felt the need for certain employees to be escorted did not help communication efforts with administration.

The wording of the proposed policy will now change to address these questions.
