One deputy was killed and multiple others were wounded in a shooting in Indian River County on Friday, a Florida mayor said.

Vero Beach Mayor John Cotugno confirmed to NBC affiliate WPTV that the deputy was killed in the shooting at the Bermuda Club north of Vero Beach.

The deputies were attempting to serve an eviction notice, the report said.

The injured deputies were taken to a hospital in Fort Pierce. Their condition was unknown.

Sheriff Eric Flowers confirmed there was a deputy shooting and was expected to give more information at a news conference at 12 p.m.
