MCLEAN, Va. — Virginia transportation officials are delaying the opening of new express lanes along the Capital Beltway in Northern Virginia, citing weather concerns.

The 2.5-mile stretch, originally scheduled to open Saturday, will now open Sunday morning, according to Transurban, which helped create the lanes.

The new lanes run through one of the region’s most congested corridors, including the area near the Dulles Toll Road. The project is designed to give commuters additional options as millions prepare to travel for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Mike McGurk, a spokesperson for Transurban, said the aim is to ease everyday frustrations for drivers.
