Though former Lipscomb University professor Lauren Pinkston on Friday launched her independent campaign to become Tennessee's next governor through an article in the Tennessee Lookout, the outlet did not note that Pinkston formerly recruited members and solicited donations for the Forward Party founded by Andrew Yang after he failed to secure the Democratic Party nominations for President of the United States in 2020 and Mayor of New York in 2021. 

A now-deleted web page on the Forward Party website reveals Pinkston operated a fundraiser for Yang's political party, and informed donors their money would be used for activity that, "breaks up a two-party system that has gripped our nation with division."
