A New Mexico park manager was arrested Sunday in Roosevelt County, accused of hunting without a license and shooting at artificial wildlife from the roadway.

Manuel Villanueva, the manager at Storrie Lake State Park in Las Vegas, was released Tuesday from the Portales jail.

According to a statement of probable cause filed by a New Mexico Game and Fish officer, Villanueva was “observed unlawfully shooting at an artificial deer that was set up along the side of Blackwater (Road).”

“Mr. Villanueva was observed unlawfully shooting from the maintained surface of the roadway by a New Mexico Department of Game and Fish officer.”

The statement reports Villanueva did not have a current, valid deer hunting license.
