Waving Mexican, American and Palestinian flags, more than 100 people gathered in Lafayette Square on Saturday for a wide-ranging protest against mass deportations, the end of NOPD's federal consent decree and the oppression of Palestinians.

"State violence comes in many uniforms, but the purpose is the same: to destroy Black and brown people," said Sister Shanta Scott, whose son was killed in 2019 by the son of an NOPD officer.

The protest by the National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression New Orleans was an "emergency" response to U.S. Border Patrol sweeps targeting immigrants in the area, organizers said.
