ELSIE, Mich. (WILX) -Elsie Fire Department Chief Zak McNamara announced Saturday he is stepping down from his leadership role to focus on his family.

The announcement came in a social media post on the fire department’s Facebook page.

In the post, McNamara said he will continue to serve the department in a reduced capacity as a firefighter and EMT.

“With the department moving in a positive direction, now is the right time to announce that I will be taking a step back from leading these fine men and women,” McNamara said in his announcement.

McNamara thanked the community for their support during his tenure as chief.

“It has been the honor of a lifetime to help lead this department through some very difficult times, but it is time for me to step back and focus on my family,” he said.
