Israel’s Economy Minister Nir Barkat has said he is looking to synchronise Israeli start-ups with relevant partners in India and expand collaboration in cutting-edge areas such as health and precision medicine.

Speaking to CNBC-TV18 in Tel Aviv after signing the Terms of Reference (ToR) for a proposed India–Israel Free Trade Agreement with Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, Barkat called for a shift from “classic deals of the past” to innovation-driven partnerships in artificial intelligence, powered by large, linked databases.

Barkat described India as an “easier to invest” destination due to its respect for intellectual-property protections, adding that this gives investors confidence compared with other geographies. Israel currently has around 10,000 start-ups across defence
