Army football has built a reputation as a team unafraid to utilize four downs to gain first downs, leading the nation in attempts and conversions in 2025.
But with all things gambling, sometimes the risk doesn't lead to reward.
In the clash with Tulsa on Saturday, Sept. 22, coach Jeff Monken's Black Knights were once again placed in a situation where one successful conversion in the late-going would run out the clock and gain victory. And for a second time this season, Army came up short.
Tulsa trailed Army 25-23 with under two minutes to play. Noah Short successfully fielded a one-bounce onside kick inside the Tulsa 50. All Army needed was one first down and a sixth victory, one that would qualify the Black Knights for bowl season, was in the books.
