Google searches for “best houseplants for beginners” have surged by more than 350% in the past five years as more and more of us are turning our homes into leafy sanctuaries. To uncover the nation’s favourites, Barratt Homes analysed the last five years of UK Google Search data to reveal the plants Brits can’t get enough of.

They also teamed up with gardening expert Lucie Bradley, from Easy Garden Irrigation , and Helen Nyul, group head of biodiversity at David Wilson Homes, to co-create a houseplant care guide detailing how to protect houseplants from your heating, the top picks for each room in the home and essential care tips and common mistakes to avoid.
