Community members and organizers gathered at the Home Depot in Monrovia to demand the company prevent the immigration raids taking place at its locations.
Saturday’s demonstration included a buy-in, where volunteers bought an ice scraper from Home Depot and returned it.
The efforts follow the death of Carlos Roberto Montoya Valdez, a day laborer who was struck and killed after running onto the 210 Freeway while trying to flee from an immigration sweep at the Monrovia store.
Nearly one hundred people had just one item on their list as they entered the Home Depot in Monrovia on Saturday: a small ice scraper worth a little less than a dollar.
They got back in line only minutes later
