When Avonworth walked into its postgame press conference, they’d forgotten something. Junior center Bradly Hines walked in behind the team.
“Y’all boys missing something,” Hines said, holding up the WPIAL Class 3A championship trophy. The response was quick.
“They know we won,” senior receiver Cooper Scharding said with a grin.
Avonworth not only won but made sure everyone knew it. The top-seeded Antelopes dominated No. 2 Imani Christian, beating the Saints 30-6 on Saturday evening at Acrisure Stadium. Avonworth has now won four WPIAL championships, including two in a row.
“They’re special,” Avonworth coach Duke Johncour said. “They’re WPIAL champions. We’ll take it. Back to back.”
