Lansing — Some of the state’s strictest safeguards against the negative effects of data center development will be administered through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, an agency that has faced an onslaught of criticism in recent months for its handling of job-creation programs and grants.
Michigan’s newly minted sales and use tax exemption for enterprise data centers includes a slate of environmental and energy use protections, including, perhaps most prominently, that the energy costs of a data center do not bleed over into residential electric rates.
