: Oil India Limited (OIL) on Saturday successfully capped the blowout at Well KSG-76 in the Kharsang Oil Field, Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh — 23 days after uncontrolled gas release began.
The blowout occurred on October 30 during service operations at the well, operated by GeoEnpro Petroleum Ltd (GEPL). OIL’s Crisis Management Team, reinforced by experts from Cudd Well Control (USA) and GEPL, assumed control on November 1 and launched a high-risk operation to remove the damaged Blowout Preventer (BOP).
The team subsequently installed a pre-positioned capping stack on the wellhead, redirecting and containing the gas flow. With the capping stack secured and the BOP closed, the gas discharge was fully stopped, bringing the situation under control.
