Travis Head’s hundred in the 2025-26 Ashes opener was inspired by his former teammate, David Warner. He revealed after Australia’s win that he ‘brewed’ the idea of replacing Usman Khawaja as the opener with Warner’s aggressive batting during his 15-year-long career in mind.

Head, who usually plays in the middle-order against the old ball, was not supposed to open in the 205-run chase of the final innings. However, an injury to regular opener Khawaja vacated the spot, and Head smacked 123 off just 83 balls, hitting 16 fours and four sixes at a strike rate of nearly 150.
