New Delhi: The interrogation room in Srinagar was fraught with tension, but Maulvi Ishtiyaq, a preacher from Mewat, Haryana, appeared unfazed. Detained for his alleged role in a ‘white-collar’ terror module, his primary concern was not the 2,500 kg of explosive material recovered from his rented accommodation near Faridabad’s Al Falah University, but the six months of unpaid storage rent he claimed was owed by two arrested doctors.
Ishtiyaq’s name emerged during the interrogation of Dr Muzammil Ganaie, a key member of the module busted by Srinagar Police on November 10. At Ganaie’s instance, security teams recovered large quantities of ammonium nitrate, potassium chlorate and sulphur from the preacher’s residence, material sufficient for a massive terror strike.
