Six airlines have stopped flights to Venezuela, an aviation body has said, after the U.S. issued a warning about the "worsening security situation and heightened military activity" around the South American nation.
Spanish flag carrier Iberia, Portugal's TAP airline, Colombia-based Avianca, Chile's LATAM, Brazil's GOL and Trinidad and Tobago's Caribbean airline suspended flights to Venezuela on Saturday, said Marisela de Loaiza, the head of the Venezuelan Airlines Association, according to reports attributed to the AFP news agency.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration ( FAA) on Friday warned a irlines of a "potentially hazardous situation" when flying over Venezuela, urging air crews to exercise caution when traveling in the area.
