CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The city of Charlotte announced on Friday that it will provide $100,000 to help residents struggling with rent and utility bills due to the ongoing economic disruption across the community. This comes after reports that the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents concluded their operation in Charlotte on Thursday .
The emergency assistance will support income-eligible households experiencing financial hardship from business closures and related income losses, according to a release from the city.
City Manager Marcus D. Jones said staff began reaching out to community stakeholders last week to assess the economic impact on families and identify how the city could help.
