Star wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul will lead India in the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa, the BCCI announced on Sunday, November 23. He was named the captain after regular skipper Shubman Gill suffered a neck injury during the first Test against South Africa and was ruled out of the ODI series.
Rahul is also the designated wicketkeeper of the team, besides Rishabh Pant. The latter is also Rahul’s deputy for the series, which starts on November 30 in Ranchi, followed by games in Raipur (December 3) and Visakhapatnam (December 6).
Rahul has earlier led India in 12 ODIs and hence was the best option available to the selectors for the three-match series with Gill injured.
