India batter KL Rahul will captain the side in the three upcoming ODIs against South Africa starting at the end of the month after the ongoing Test series. Rahul will lead in the absence of regular captain Shubman Gill , who had suffered a neck injury during the first Test in Kolkata which India lost.

Rishabh Pant was back in ODI mix as the second wicketkeeper, having last played in the format on the tour of Sri Lanka in August 2024, while Jasprit Bumrah was rested, having featured in all four home Tests this season, the T20 Asia Cup as well as the Australia ODIs over the past two months. Shreyas Iyer too wasn't in the squad as he continues to recover from a spleen injury he sustained last month during the ODI series in Australia.
