BRUNSWICK, Ga. — A second-round GHSA state playoff game between Gainesville and Brunswick came to an abrupt halt on Friday night after a massive fight broke out during the third quarter at Brunswick High School.
The confrontation unfolded with 1:57 left in the quarter when Gainesville held a commanding 42–0 lead, according to 11Alive's Savannah NBC affiliate WSAV . The game was called following the brawl and the final score stood.
Video shows that once the scuffle calmed down, the officiating crew gathered near midfield and spent roughly 10 minutes discussing how to proceed. Following that meeting, a Brunswick coach escorted the Pirates’ players to one end of the field, while Gainesville’s team was instructed to move to the opposite side.
