The SNP and Labour Governments are divided over the closure of a Fife chemical plant after backing rival taskforces to save jobs. Oil giant ExxonMobil last week announced plans to close their ethylene facility at Mossmorran . ‌

Over 400 jobs are at risk after the company hit out at the effect of the current economic climate on their competitiveness. But the Scottish and UK Governments are at odds over how to respond to the jobs catastrophe . ‌

Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes last week said she would convene a taskforce and said a summit would take place on Tuesday. Scottish Secretary Douglas Alexander has said he backs a Fife council-led taskforce and has urged the SNP Government to back this body instead . ‌
