Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood has spoken candidly about his troubled relationship with his father, Philip.

He reveals: "He was a terrible alcoholic and that was prevalent all the way through our childhood. Growing up around alcoholism is just awful.

"It was just so abusive at home. That's the reason I started dancing as well. Not only because I was porky, but because I just couldn't stand being at home. I think that led me to a life of dance.

"There was a good reason why I lived 10,000 miles away from home."

Following Philip's sudden death - a former lieutenant in the Royal Australian Navy - Horwood discloses that the toxicology report revealed massive quantities of alcohol in his system, reports the Mirror .
